The PLD12.5K-CH is a 12.5 A Laser Diode Driver in a small chassis mount package. Modular packaging makes it easy to integrate the PLD into your system. For applications that require a higher forward voltage, a separate laser diode power supply input lets you provide a higher compliance voltage. One power supply is required for the internal electronics; a separate supply is required to power the laser diode.

These drivers are not recommended for low noise applications. See the LD5CHA, LD10CHA or LD15CHA for lower noise laser drivers.


The Active Current Limit not only protects your laser diode, but ensures that you are operating with maximum stability. When the laser current reaches the level set by the Limit I Trimpot, the output disables and the Limit LED and Limit Status indicate the current limit has been reached. For single supply operation at 10 A or 5 A select the PLD10K-CH or the PLD5K-CH, respectively. For 6.5 A or 5 A in a PCB mount package, select the PLD6500 or PLD5000, respectively.

Two photodiode ranges provide variable sensitivities for optimum operation. You can maintain excellent stability when operating in both Constant Current and Constant Power mode. All trimpots and switches are easily accessible and offer precision control. A slow start circuit, mechanical shorting relay, and Active Current Limit offer maximum protection for your laser diode even when power is removed.


The PLD12.5K-CH includes user adjustments and status indicators. Onboard trimpots set current limit and current setpoint. Alternately, you can use the modulation / remote input for laser driver current setpoint. An LED indicates status of the laser diode output current. Another LED indicates when the current limit trip point has been triggered. Switches select Constant Current or Constant Power mode and photodiode range.

The PLD chassis mount laser diode drivers have a matching temperature controller family. The PTC10K-CH , PTC5K-CH and PTC2.5K‑CH drive 10 A, 5 A, and 2.5 A of temperature controller current respectively. Up to 20 A can be delivered using the PTC10K-SL current booster.

An array of units can be used for fiber splice testing in telecom laser manufacturing. The PLD12.5K-CH is ideal for applications where current stability is critical and space is tight, such as benchtop inspection instruments and medical diagnostic equipment. It is CE certified. Delay: ≥1.5 sec. After the delay, current will rise to the level dictated by the setpoint voltage. This delay ensures that all control electronics are functioning before current flows to the laser diode. The delay time is set with internal components.

Remote Enable: The laser current is enabled if this input is +3 to +5 V. The current is disabled if the input is grounded or floating. This input is called LD ENABLE.

Bandwidth: 50 kHz (CC). Bandwidth in Constant Power mode will depend on photodiode response.
