Question
Battery power for Laser Drivers and Temperature Controllers – can the laser diode driver and temperature controller be powered by batteries directly?
Answer
Wavelength manufactures different versions of the WLD and WTC, including models designed for battery-driven operation. It is important that you verify the operational configuration using the Safe Operating Area (SOA) Calculators for each product.
The WLD3343HB and WLD33ND-HB laser drivers are designed to operate with an input voltage of 3.3 V to 6 V, whereas the non-HB version operates across an input voltage of 5 V to 12 V. The lower input voltage range of the -HB is optimized for more efficient battery-driven operations. Use the Laser Diode Driver SOA calculator at this link: Safe Operating Area Calculator for Laser Drivers
Likewise, the WTC3243HB and WTC32ND-HB operate with an input voltage range of 3.3 V to 8 V, compared to the input voltage range of 5 V – 30 V of the standard WTC. Use the Temperature Controller SOA calculator: Safe Operating Area Calculator for Temperature Controllers
