Photonics West 2017 — What’s New?

Come visit us at booth #908 at Photonics West January 31 to Feb 2 in San Francisco. We’ll have The TC LAB Series Temperature Controller and QCL LAB Series quantum cascade laser driver instruments operating so you can experience the touchscreen interface and see how simple operation can be! The QCL OEM driver with integrated temperature control will also be on display. Click here for more details or to make an appointment with your Applications Engineer.

Some scientists spend their life’s work tuning control systems. For others, tuning is a means to an end and the faster done, the better. Wavelength researched Autotune algorithms and control systems and simplified optimization beyond the typical Autotune. We call it IntelliTune: Intelligent Autotune. After a single characterization scan, the controller’s PID parameters are changed to remain optimized as setpoint, tuning mode, or bias current are changed. Our control algorithm focuses on maintaining the best stability.

Wavelength designed the QCL LAB and TC LAB instruments with the touchscreen interface to be upgradeable in the field. New TCLAB firmware is available – for free. Version 1.7 can be downloaded here. The upgrade gives full access to IntelliTune. For instructions on how to upgrade the firmware, see the datasheet here.

Wavelength is always interested in discussing your new cutting edge research. We’ve launched a web page to highlight applications our precision drivers and controllers enable. If you’d like your work to be added to the forum, contact technical support. This month, we’re excited to show how NASA Goddard uses the WLD3343 and it’s evaluation board (WLD3393) to perform Optoelectronic component qualification. An array of drivers powers many laser diodes in their testing facility.

How simple is it to set up a black box temperature controller? Our new video walks you through the setup quickly and thoroughly. We’ve integrated tips and tricks our Applications Engineers recommend to simplify operation with a 10 kΩ thermistor.

The QCL LAB instrument is now Test & Measurement Class (TMC) compliant. Use a comprehensive Command Set to control the instrument using USB or Ethernet. A Labview Virtual Instrument is also available for high level control. New instruments ship TMC-ready from the factory. Instruments in the field can be upgraded – for free. See FAQ 1146 for detailed instructions.

We invite you to contribute topic suggestions, questions, and general feedback. Wavelength will incorporate as much reader input as possible.
