The PLD6500 is a 6.5 Amp Laser Diode Driver in a PCB mount package with heatsink and fan integrated. Operating from a single +5 V supply minimizes internal heat dissipation. For applications that require a higher forward voltage, a separate laser diode power supply input lets you provide a higher compliance voltage. For 10 Amps in a PCB mount package select the PLD10000. For 10 Amps or 5 Amps in a chassis mount package select the PLD10K-CH or PLD5K-CH respectively. For 5A, 1.25 A, 500 mA, or 200 mA in a PCB mount package, select the PLD1250, PLD1250, PLD500, or PLD200 respectively. An evaluation board can also simplify prototyping: PLDEVALPCB
The Active Current Limit not only protects your laser diode, but ensures that you are operating with maximum stability. When the laser current reaches the level set by the Limit I Trimpot, the output disables and the Limit LED and Limit Status indicate the current limit has been reached. Two photodiode ranges provide variable sensitivities for optimum operation. You can maintain excellent stability when operating in both constant current and constant power mode. All trimpots and switches are easily accessible and offer precision control. A slow start circuit, mechanical shorting relay, and Active Current Limit offer maximum protection for your laser diode even when power is removed.
The PLD6500 includes user adjustments and status indicators. Onboard trimpots set current limit and current setpoint. Alternately, you can use the modulation / remote input for laser driver current setpoint. An LED indicates status of the laser diode output current. Switches select Constant Current or Constant Power mode and photodiode range.
The PLD6500 is ideally suited for electro-optical equipment used in the semiconductor industry and various manufacturing processes, as well as for laser marking and medical/dental equipment.
Free, effective, and responsive technical support is available to simplify integration of Wavelength products into your OEM design. Standard product can be easily modified to meet your application requirements.
